i use a snap swivel to 80lb floro to a swivel or blood knot to steel then steel to single owner hook 5/0 then to a treble and then to another treble. snap the snap swivel on the line tighten it up and send your live bait flying lol works great ill try and take a pic or two of my leaders for u for kings

Cool. I make king leaders with either a single treble or sometimes two. I sometimes use live bait hooks for the first hook. BUT, if you clasp a snap swivel over the trolly line, how does it come off when a fish takes the bait?

it doesn't you allow the trolly line to be your main reel...for kings i use a squidder and have never been spooled or had a problem but sometimes i use my 4/0 cuz i can still cast the shit out of it but off of a pier the name of the game for kings is distance so with the squidder and my 10ft gator i hit around 80 90 yards i been doin it since i was 11 or 12. but ya you just use the the "trolly Line" as your main line no second rod and reel i only do that for shark fishing to suspend a big dead bait

the trolly is one rod usually a 10ft surf casting rod and then we cast the anchor out and make a clip that is a piece of wire with a lead weight some beads and a snap swivel and put the 2 prongs off the clip through the eye of the swivel on our king fish leaders and slid the bait down on a separate rod and reel so when the king, cuda, tarpon, bonita eat it the king leader pops off the anchor line and you are fighting the fish on a totally diff rod.

ya i've done that with my daiwa 900h using a live cud that was like 3 feet long lol caught a 7'6" lemon lol its all bout what you want to do but i use it both ways but i love catching lemons i had one in the keys close to 9 and it tried to breach the water and only got like half way out lol caught it in the flats like 15 feet off the boat dock at the hotel i was staying at put out a stingray wing and threw the middle out for chum tied to a rope i think a big bull ate the middle cuz i heard bones crunching like 5 mins before my run and when i pulled up the carcass after i caught my lemon the rope was cut off lol i've tried fishing so many ways just to see if my ideas will work lol

This is what I was referring to...thanks man. I've seen the wire/weight/beads thing. I think I can picture it now.

But I've never thought of this...it is very interesting. I guess the snap swivel on your leader will stop at the spider weight when fighting the fish, huh? Ok. I wonder if this would be allowed at the pier by my house. They do not allow trolly fishing. But I've always considered trolly fishing to use two rods. I just might be able to get away with this. What can they do? Tell me to stop or kick me off the pier for the day?

they wont kick you because it isn't trolly fishing lol i used to do it at every pier i went to and its not considered a trolly cause your only using the 1 line its technically just like any other fishing just bigger leader and i like to a big bobber or a balloon on the snap swivel cuz in my experience a suspended bait will get hit more often than one on the top or on the bottom depending what your going for but its an awesome way to fish and put your bait exactly where you want it :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Couple questions--how long is your leader when you fish like this? 3ft? 5ft? Do you ever have trouble with the bait wrapping around you main line, which could be a hassle, as well as could put the kings teeth on it if it hits the bait? AND...seems like it might be difficult to set the hook if you cast 80yards out with a weight that's on the bottom and the fish takes the bait 40 yards out where the slide enters the water??? I know you probably just hope that with enough trebles it hooks itself--just seems kinda wierd to think about.

Honestly I've never had a tangle and you only use like a 4 ounce claw or 5 when you tighten the drag the claw pulls out of the sand and the leader slides down I kno it sounds weird but if I showed you it'd make sense and I use about a 5 to 6 foot leader snap swivel to main j hook it didn't make sense to me at first either but now I don't fish without it and it produces a lot of fish cuz your bait swims up and down the line covering more area

Cool man. I'm diggin' it. I will probably fish with at least 2 rods like this every time I hit the pier from now on! Planning on giving it my first try in the morning. Usually I'm limited to one live bait (for king/spanish/bluefish/etc, whatever is eating), a couple of small shark/red baits for whatever is eating on bottom, and a bait pole. And the live bait can sometimes take up so much of my attention that if I'm using it, I have to reel all the others in. NO MORE!!!! I really appreciate you sharing this with us!

Used it for a little while today. Worked GREAT, but no fish around to take the bait. However, I did get run off of the pier when they saw what I was doing. I pleaded my case, but they said that it still qualified as a trolley line, and that I could reel it in a leave, or get banned from the pier. So I just left. SUCKS!!! Can't catch shit around here, and they apparently don't want anyone to. That's cool. I'm moving to the Apalachicola Forest around Sopchoppy or to south Florida in a couple of years. The fishing Alligator Point and the surrounding bays in that area is awesome!
